WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) today announced that New Mexico will receive 11 matching grants totaling $946,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts to support music, theater and visual arts projects across the state.
"The arts and humanities not only help us to continue New Mexico's culture and traditions, they also allow us to share new ideas and experiences," said Udall. "The arts are an important driver of our economy and these grants will promote local artists and expose our communities to valuable productions and works that both inspire and enrich our lives."
Udall is a member of the Senate Cultural Caucus, which works to support the Arts and the Humanities in Congress.
Projects receiving grants are:
Albuquerque:
$15,000 - Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, Inc. to support ArtStreet, a community based art education program.
$25,000 - Outpost Productions, Inc. to support the New Mexico Jazz Festival.
$10,000 - Tricklock Company to support the Revolutions International Theatre Festival.
$30,000 - University of New Mexico Main Campus to support the creation of Dome Poems: Memory and Emergence.
Las Cruces:
$25,000 - Catholic Diocese of Las Cruces Foundation to support the 19th Mariachi Music and Folkloric Dance Program.
Santa Fe:
$15,000 - CENTER to support Review Santa Fe, a juried photography portfolio review and exhibition.
$14,000 - City of Santa Fe, New Mexico to support exhibits and related educational programs featuring the work of living New Mexico artists that will examine the influences of modernism on local art forms and the intrinsic qualities of New Mexico.
$679,000 - New Mexico Arts to support Partnership Agreement activities.
$48,000 - Partners in Education Foundation for the Santa Fe Public Schools Arts Education to support ArtWorks, a school-wide arts integration program for pre-Kindergarten through 8th-grade students based on the Lincoln Center Institute model of integrative arts learning.
$10,000 - Santa Fe New Music, Inc. to support SFNM2: Music as Environmental Consciousness, a contemporary chamber music festival featuring the SFNM ensemble.
$75,000 - SITE Santa Fe to support audience engagement initiatives related to an exhibition featuring works by international contemporary artists.
