WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall, D-N.M., today announced new federal funding for improvements to Interstate 10 from Las Cruces to the Texas state line.
The $1.9 million award from the U.S. Department of Transportation will help expand Interstate 10 from four lanes to six lanes between Las Cruces and El Paso.
"This funding will provide more lanes on I-10 between Las Cruces and El Paso, which will improve safety and ease traffic congestion along this heavily traveled roadway," Udall said.
The lane expansion project for this stretch of Interstate 10 began in August 2009 with funding from state and federal sources, including the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The project is expected to be completed in 2011. Interstate 10 is a major corridor for transporting goods from the east to west coast.
Udall is a member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee and the Environment and Public Works Committee which both help oversee the U.S. Department of Transportation.
