Udall Congratulates President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after state vote counts became clear that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be elected president and vice president:

“The American people have spoken, and they have made the wise decision to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next president and vice president. This is a win not only for the Biden-Harris ticket, but also a win for New Mexico’s working families, for decency, for unity, for our health, for our planet, and for our democracy. I’m especially proud that this message of progress and unity resonated so strongly in New Mexico, in Indian Country, and across the Southwest.

“As President-Elect Biden has said so many times, he will be a president for all Americans – not just those who voted for him. That is the spirit that we must all strive toward. It will take mutual respect and cooperation to solve the pressing challenges that we are facing: the devastation this virus has caused our health and economy, and the crises facing our democracy, our climate, and the natural world. We are going to need to heal our divisions as we work to build this country back better to create a more equitable, more prosperous, and healthier future. I am excited for the progress that a Biden-Harris administration will bring, as are so many committed New Mexicans and Americans who love this country deeply.”
