Udall, Heinrich Announce $788,700 Grant Funding to Strengthen N.M. Affordable Housing Nonprofit Organizations

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich announced that NeighborWorks America will award three New Mexico nonprofit affordable housing organizations with grants funded through the FY2014 Omnibus Appropriations Funding Bill. Santa Fe's Homewise, Inc., Navajo Partnership for Housing, Inc. in Gallup, and the Tierra del Sol Housing Corporation in Southern New Mexico will receive a total of over $785,000 to support revitalization efforts, to promote and preserve affordable housing, and to create and sustain jobs through local NeighborWorks-supported projects and activities.

NeighborWorks America is a public nonprofit organization, established by Congress in 1978 as the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation. The organization works with nonprofit partner organizations to support local and community-based solutions to community development and affordable housing issues across the country through financial and grant support, training, technical assistance, technology tools, and other resources.

"This grant funding will help more New Mexico families have a safe place to call home - a crucial first step to build healthy vibrant communities," Udall said. "Quality affordable housing helps keep families together, keep a steady job and save money for the future. It's a building block that helps create jobs and grow the economy. As a member of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, I'm proud to keep fighting for resources to ensure all New Mexico families have access to quality, affordable housing."

"Affordable and sustainable homeownership is critical for every family across New Mexico," said Heinrich. "This grant helps make quality and safe housing available to families in our state, strengthen our communities, and create good jobs in the process. I will continue to support effective housing programs and work to ensure affordable and quality housing is available for every New Mexican."

Awarded grant funding:
Homewise, Inc. - $642,800
Navajo Partnership for Housing, Inc. - $42,300
