Udall, Heinrich, Torres Small Announce $405,000 in FAA Funding for Carrizozo Municipal Airport

WASHINGTON U.S. Senators Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representative Xochitl Torres Small (D-N.M.) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded a $405,000 grant to Carrizozo Municipal Airport for runway improvements.

“New Mexico’s regional airports are critical transportation lifelines for our state’s rural economies and communities like Carrizozo,” Udall said. “As travel to and from New Mexico continues to increase, residents and visitors will increasingly rely on our regional airports—and this infrastructure and marketing funding will help them support New Mexico’s economic success. This funding will improve and revitalize the airport to ensure that their infrastructure remains structurally sound into the future. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for the resources needed to maintain our transportation hubs and boost our economy.”

“New Mexico’s airports create opportunities for tourism, economic growth, and commercial aviation across the state,” said Heinrich . “I'm pleased to announce federal funding to modernize Carrizozo Municipal Airport and will continue to fight for infrastructure investments like these that build the foundation for long-term economic growth and job creation in our state.”

“As activity continues to increase at airports across New Mexico, I’m pleased to share that the Federal Aviation Administration awarded Carrizozo’s airport $405,000 for reconstruction projects. Our local airports are critical to connecting both businesses and families throughout the state, and this funding will ensure dependable, safe air travel. We must continue to prioritize these kinds of investments and I will continue to serve as an advocate for central and southern New Mexico,” said Torres Small.

Carrizozo Municipal Airport will use the funds to finish reconstruction for its 6,000-square yard south apron. The grant will fund the final phase re-marking the runway for safe takeoff and landing at the airport.
