Udall: New Mexico DOT Receives More Than $700,000 for New Equipment

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) today announced that the New Mexico Department of Transportation will receive $723,873 to purchase new buses and improve existing bus facilities.

The funding was made possible through the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration.

"Expanding access to public transportation is critical during tough economic times," said Udall. Many residents rely on public transportation to get groceries for their family and travel to and from work. I am certain our communities will benefit from these needed transportation improvements."

The funding will provide for equipment purchases including 30-foot buses, vans, fare boxes, radios, GPS systems, security systems, signage, benches, computers and a small rehabilitation of a maintenance facility for 12 rural public transportation systems in 13 counties.
