Udall Thanks Albuquerque Native for Work During Washington, D.C., Internship

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall thanked Albuquerque native Laura Keith for her work as an intern in his Washington, D.C., office this summer. During her seven weeks on Capitol Hill, Keith worked primarily on issues related to energy and the environment.

"An internship in the U.S. Senate provides students with an invaluable learning opportunity, and it has been a pleasure to work with Laura and have her as a part of my team this summer," Udall said. "I wish Laura the best as she returns to school this fall, and I hope that she's able to build on her experiences in my Washington office in her future endeavors and whichever career field she chooses."

Keith said she applied for an internship in Udall's office because she wanted to gain a better understanding of government first hand. She said she appreciates the supportive environment of the office and how inclusive Udall's staff has been.

"It was amazing to be in the office when the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act passed," Keith said. "Many people aren't aware of the chemicals in everyday products. Senator Udall and his staff worked so hard on this issue, and it was great to be here to witness this important bill becoming law."

Keith is the daughter of JoDee and Tom Keith, and graduated from Sandia High School. She is studying economics, marketing and general management at the University of Oklahoma (OU), where she will be a senior this fall. She is president of The Oklahoma Group student-consulting organization and a member of the the OU equestrian team.
