You’re Invited: Money Smart Week

Managing your money wisely is crucial to planning for the future and making big financial decisions. But when it comes to saving for retirement, borrowing money for college, or buying a house, many of us have questions about the smartest ways to save. Understanding how to build your credit, protect yourself from scams, and create a basic budget can relieve stress and lead to a secure and happy future for you and your family.

That's why I'm very excited to partner with the Federal Reserve Bank, the FDIC, local banks, local businesses, and schools to hold a series of free events this month focused on financial education and literacy. Whether you have questions about student loans or just want to sharpen your basic budgeting skills, there's a class that will help you make smart decisions and gain financial independence.

Money Smart Week is a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about financial education and offer informative courses on basic banking, lending, buying a house and much more. Some courses focus on assisting young adults with student debt, setting financial goals, and saving, while others are targeted at older adults or small business owners. These classes are available in both English and Spanish and open to individuals of all income levels.

I'm proud to help bring this event to Las Cruces and Doña Ana County April 18 - 25, and I hope that you will attend one of the many classes available.

Money Smart Week kicks off tomorrow, Saturday, April 18 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Las Cruces Farmers' and Craft Market. Come by to find out more about the week's events and have some fun with games for kids and prizes for adults!

Financial literacy is an important skill that will quite literally pay dividends for years to come. I hope you'll take advantage of these free events and learn the skills you need to gain financial independence.
