Pueblo of Laguna Receives $2 Million for Water and Waste Disposal

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) today announced that the Pueblo of Laguna will receive two grants totaling $2 million to improve the Pueblo's sewer infrastructure.

The grants - worth $1 million each - are made possible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture rural development Native American Set-Aside grant program.

"Like many of our Native communities, the Pueblo of Laguna faces the dual challenge of outdated and overused water and waste disposal systems," Udall said. "The Pueblo's sewer system was constructed decades ago and is now a threat to the community's health. This funding will help them make the necessary repairs."

The existing sewer collection was constructed more than 20 years ago and the water distribution systems were constructed more than 50 years ago.
