WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall, D-N.M., today proudly announced that Bianca Ortiz Wertheim will serve as his state director. A native New Mexican, Ortiz Wertheim has a wide range of public service and government experience on the state and local level.

"Throughout her career, Bianca has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the lives of the citizens of New Mexico," said Udall. "She has developed a unique array of experiences working on behalf of the people and state she loves and I am confident she will be a great asset to my team."

Said Ortiz Wertheim, "Senator Udall has an outstanding reputation of providing New Mexicans with exceptional constituent services and I am thrilled to be joining his team. I look forward to working with Senator Udall and his entire staff to help turn around our struggling economy, increase energy independence, expand access to healthcare and improve our education system."

Ortiz Wertheim has significant state-wide experience. She has most recently served as Chief of Staff to Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez. Prior to her work for the City of Albuquerque, she served as the Program Manager for Economic Development and Research at the University of New Mexico and the Director of Cabinet Affairs for the State of New Mexico under Governor Bill Richardson.

"As my Chief of Staff, Bianca served the people of Albuquerque with passion and diligence," said Mayor Martin Chavez. "I look forward to continue working with her in her new role as Senator Udall's state director."
