$10.7 Million Slated for White Sands Missile Range, National Guard Training Complex Through Recovery

Funding to Improve Infrastructure at White Sands, Energy Management at Guard's Oñate Complex

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall joined U.S. Representatives Harry Teague and Ben Ray Luján to announce that $10.7 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding will be heading to White Sands Missile Range and the N.M. Army National Guard's Oñate Training Complex.

Nearly $9.7 million is targeted for investments at White Sands for projects including infrastructure, maintenance and other missile range repairs. An additional $1 million will be used to install an energy management system in Santa Fe at the Guard's Oñate Training Complex.

"The Pentagon is increasingly relying on WSMR, so we need to ensure that the testing range is in top condition. This funding invests in key safety and maintenance projects," Bingaman said. "I'm also very glad that we're making funding available to improve energy efficiency at the National Guard's training complex."

"The $9.7 million directed to White Sands will go a long way to support the upkeep and maintenance of the missile range and help improve the safety and health for our troops who are stationed there," said Udall. "The recovery act will also help modernize the Army National Guard's Oñate Complex with a smart, $1 million investment to help manage the energy use."

"As we prepare for the arrival of the Brigade Combat Team of more than 3,000 members at White Sands Missile range, it is critical that our facilities are in the best possible condition," said Teague. "The funding provided by the Recovery Act will help take care of some long overdue maintenance at White Sands making the facilities safer and more energy efficient."

"The Oñate Army National Guard Complex Training Site will use Recovery Act funding to install energy management systems in training facilities, improving energy use at the training site," said Luján. "This funding will help conserve energy and enhance energy use."
