Udall: Wesst to Receive $800,000 to Support New Mexico Small Businesses

Senator Will Be Partnering with New Mexico Nonprofit to Support Current and Prospective Small Business Owners

WASHINGTON -U.S. Senator Tom Udall, D-N.M., today announced that the Women's Economic Self-Sufficiency Team (WESST), a New Mexico nonprofit, will receive $800,000 from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration for the completion of an Enterprise Center to offer state-of-the-art amenities and business assistance programs for 18 to 30 new or expanding small businesses. The facility opened in January 2009, and it already serves five area small businesses. The additional resources will allow it to become fully operational by paying for the completion of a multimedia studio and other projects. The 37,000 square foot Enterprise Center building meets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards and occupies a former Superfund site in a federally-designated Pocket of Poverty area of Albuquerque.

In August, Udall's staff will be hosting a series of meetings with WESST. Meeting attendees will learn about WESST's distance learning program, which includes courses in web marketing, Facebook for business, and writing a business plan.
