WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall today announced the Department of Energy is releasing $1.3 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding to six counties and cities in New Mexico.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block grants (EECBG) can be used to help communities improve their energy efficiency, reduce their energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and create local green jobs. Activities eligible for EECBG funding include energy audits and building retrofits in the residential and commercial sector, the development and implementation of advanced building codes and inspections, and the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency improvements.
"The funding released today will help these New Mexico communities take important steps aimed at improving energy efficiency and promoting cleaner energy," said Bingaman, who chairs the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
"This funding will help give New Mexico the opportunity to become more energy efficient with new energy saving projects. This Recovery funding will create lasting jobs in these communities and save money on energy for years to come," said Udall.
