WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tom Udall, D-NM, today announced that New Mexico will receive more than $8.1 million from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure safe drinking water for state residents.
The EPA awarded the funds to the New Mexico Finance Authority (NMFA), which will use the money to provide loan assistance to eligible public water systems for infrastructure improvements, as well as provide local assistance, technical support, and state program management.
“Safe, clean drinking water is essential to the health of New Mexicans and critical to our state’s future growth and prosperity,” Udall said. “This funding will go a long way toward helping our communities continue to provide their residents with a quality water supply.”
NMFA was created in 1992 to assist qualified governmental entities with affordable financing of capital equipment and infrastructure projects by providing low-cost funds and technical assistance. The community drinking water projects eligible for low-cost loan funding are determined by the New Mexico Environment Department.
