WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Tom Udall today announced New Mexico State University will receive a $350,000 grant from the Department of Justice to combat domestic violence.
The funds will be used to enhance the safety of child, teen and adult victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking by supporting projects that are uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes.
“Domestic violence remains a serious problem in New Mexico. This new funding will help give victims of these despicable acts the support they need and help keep New Mexico families safe,” Udall said.
New Mexico ranks seventh in the nation in the number of women killed by men each year, with 2.21 women killed per 100,000, according to a report by the Violence Policy Center in Washington D.C. The national average is 1.3 women killed per 100,000.
