Disaster Relief for Haiti

Many New Mexicans have contacted my office about Tuesday's devastating earthquake in Haiti, asking about ways to help those who have been affected.  Click the link below for suggestions from the White House on how to help.

Help for Haiti: Learn What You Can Do

President Obama has committed our assistance to Haiti -- an effort that is being coordinated by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). You can find out more about USAID's response to the disaster and how to help those in need at the following website:

U.S. Citizens in Haiti

To ask for or provide information about U.S. citizens in Haiti, email the State Department's Task Force at Haiti-Earthquake@State.Gov

The State Department requests that you provide the following information when contacting any of the numbers or using the emails above:

  • The full name, date of birth and passport information (if known) of the persons in Haiti you are trying to contact.
  • Their contact information in Haiti; telephone numbers, email address, hotel name or address (if known)
  • Your name and contact information, and your relationship to the person in Haiti (parent, spouse, friend etc.)
  • Any special or emergency circumstances.

Pending Adoptions

If you have a pending adoption case in Haiti, you can contact U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) at HaitianAdoptions@dhs.gov .

USCIS requests that all communications from prospective adoptive parents and adoption service providers should be formatted as follows:

  • Subject line: LAST NAME, First name of the adopting parent, and USCIS case number and NVC case number, if available
  • If you are adopting more than one child, please send separate e-mails for each child
  • Include the name, DOB, gender of the child, and the current location of the child in Haiti
  • Include any contact information for the child's current whereabouts
  • Please include a recent photograph of the child
  • Attachments: please limit attachments to 10 megabytes per e-mail message. If necessary, split your communication into more than one message, and indicate in the subject line the total number of e-mails and the message number (i.e. "1 of 2")
