I recently signed onto a letter by Sen. Michael Bennet urging Senate Majority Leader Reid to include a public health insurance option in health care reform under budget reconciliation rules. The letter highlights some of the great things about a public option that we've been talking about throughout this debate.
A public option would provide Americans with a low-cost alternative to private insurance and improve market competitiveness. It could also bring cost savings of at least $25 billion, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
The Senate health insurance reform bill that we passed last December was a great achievement, but I committed then to continue the fight for the public option and that's exactly what we're doing with this letter.
