WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman and Tom Udall today announced that Native American Professional Parent Resources (NAPPR) Inc. in Albuquerque will receive $1.2 million to expand its early head start program in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. The expansion will allow the program to provide pre-natal to 3-year-old parental education and care to an additional 72 families and support to 16 more expectant mothers.
The $1,229,400 was made available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"Head Start has a proven track record of helping prepare New Mexico children for school. This grant will expand Head Start to many more children, improving their chances for success," Bingaman said.
"Helping children achieve their full potential begins with making sure they get the care they need during their critical development years," Udall said. "With this funding, more Native children will get off to the right start thanks to the work and support of this worthwhile organization."
NAPPR is a non-profit resource for Native American families residing in Bernalillo, Cibola, Sandoval and Valencia counties to help educate and provide support services to build health Native American children and families.
