Today the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee held a hearing to discuss safety on our nation's roads.
A crucial step to making our roads safe is finding new ways to stop drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel. The ROADS-SAFE Act, which I introduced earlier this year, tackles this head-on by funding the development of new technologies to prevent drivers from operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol. You can watch my floor speech on the ROADS-SAFE Act here .
Although we still have a long way to go, New Mexico's experiences combating repeat offenses of drunk driving through innovations like ignition interlocks serve as a great example for the country to follow. I discussed those successes at today's EPW hearing, along with other road safety issues like measures to protect bicyclists and pedestrians on American's roads.
