Today I had the pleasure of meeting with President Obama's second Supreme Court Nominee, Solicitor General Elena Kagan.
In our meeting, she was both thoughtful and forthcoming. We discussed her recent experience arguing cases before the court on which she has now been nominated to serve, and she shared her belief in the honor of military service.
In our conversation, I also conveyed my constitutional approach to resolving the current gridlock in the Senate, and my conviction in the common law principle that one legislative body cannot bind another, which has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
Overall, General Kagan proved to be a very articulate and well-prepared nominee to serve on the Supreme Court. Check back here for updates on her formal confirmation hearings in the Judiciary Committee.
