Udall: ABQ to Receive $6.7 Million to Build Transit Center

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall today announced the City of Albuquerque transit department will receive $6,722,800 to build the Montaño Intermodal Center which will provide a new connection between ABQ Ride buses and the Rail Runner Express.

The funding is made possible through the U.S. Department of Transportation.

"As gas prices inevitably fluctuate, and working families take steps to save money and conserve energy, access to public transportation is essential. This funding will allow the city of Albuquerque to build on the success of its public transportation system by expanding access to the cross-town bus service and providing a sustainable means of transportation for area residents," Udall said.

The center will play an important role in addressing transit issues in the region due to rapid population growth in the area. The intermodal center will be located in the center of Albuquerque on Montaño Road.
