Udall Statement on Absence of Renewable Electricity Standard in New Energy Legislation

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall, D-N.M., issued the following statement today on the absence of a Renewable Electricity Standard in upcoming Senate energy legislation:

"Our coalition will continue to push for a strong Renewable Electricity Standard to be included in energy legislation that the Senate will consider before the August recess. Americans desperately need jobs and the implementation of a strong, federal RES would create tens of thousands of them in near term and over the long run.

"Our Majority Leader has a tough job, and I am pleased he is planning action to reform offshore drilling, and provide incentives for both natural gas vehicles and home energy efficiency retrofits. I am also encouraged that he is seeking to ramp-up funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. However, it remains my strong belief that we must do more, and we must begin with a federal RES."
