David Melton is President/CEO of Albuquerque-based Sacred Power

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall, D-NM, today announced that the founder of a New Mexico renewable energy company is one of 17 appointees to Commerce Secretary Gary Locke's Manufacturing Council.

David Melton, president and chief executive of Albuquerque-based Sacred Power, and his fellow appointees will serve two-year terms and advise Secretary Locke on policy related to promoting and increasing the competitiveness of U.S. industry and manufacturing. The new appointees were named during a press conference at the U.S. Capitol featuring Locke, Udall, and several other senators.

"David Melton and his company, Sacred Power, are a prime example of how integral clean energy jobs and initiatives will be in rebuilding our economy," Udall said. "New Mexico is a national leader in the development of renewable energy solutions, and David's appointment to this important council will ensure the voices of New Mexico businesses will be heard as we work to create and support 21st century manufacturing jobs across the country."

Sacred Power is a Native American owned and operated small business with a charter to provide renewable and distributive energy and telecommunications solutions. Founded in 2001, its core partners have more than 40 years of renewable and distributive energy experience, including photovoltaics, wind turbines, solar hot water and air systems, and other distributive energy systems.

The Manufacturing Council was established in 2004 and serves as the principal private sector advisory committee to the Secretary of Commerce on the U.S. manufacturing sector. The goal of the council is to enhance the government's focus on manufacturing competitiveness.
