WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) released the following statement today on the Senate's passage of a short-term Continuing Resolution:
"I voted for the CR today to avoid a government shutdown and provide another two weeks for Congress and the president to negotiate a budget for the rest of the year. However, funding for two weeks at a time is no way to do business, either for the federal agencies who have important services to provide to our constituents, or for the private sector, which is showing signs of recovery after our severe economic slowdown.
"Setting an annual federal budget is a fundamental responsibility of the jobs we were elected to do. Moving forward, failing to chart a long-term fiscal path by kicking the can down the road in two-week segments will be to the country's detriment."
