WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) today announced that the Pueblo of Laguna will receive $2.6 million in federal grants and loans to improve the Pueblo's water and sewer infrastructure.
The $1.95 million grant and $650,000 loan were made possible through U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. The funds will be used for improvements to the Pueblo's villages of Encinal, Paguate, Seama, Laguna and Mesita.
"Outdated and overused water and waste disposal systems pose a threat to community health. This funding will help the Pueblo of Laguna keep residents safe and healthy by completing necessary repairs to these outdated systems," Udall said.
The existing sewer collection was constructed more than 20 years ago and the water distribution systems were constructed more than 50 years ago.
