Protecting Your Family & Property from Wildfires

This week is Southwest Wildfire Awareness Week, and I want to add my voice to federal and state government partners encouraging everyone to learn more about protecting their families and property from wildfires.

With historic drought and dry conditions, the wildfire season is already starting, and I'll be working to ensure land agencies in New Mexico have the resources they need to prevent and fight wildfires. On the Senate Appropriations Committee, I'll be pushing to ensure we have enough resources for both fire prevention and suppression, and I will continue working to ensure Congress budgets the funds we need for firefighters and equipment.

As New Mexicans, we all have a responsibility to keep our homes and communities safe by following basic safety tips. Below are a few resources.

Visit the New Mexico Fire Information website at http://nmfireinfo.com and http://inciweb.nwcg.gov for updates from federal and state agencies.

Get outdoor safety tips from Smokey the Bear and the New Mexico Fire Information website at http://nmfireinfo.com/links/outdoor-fire-safety/.
