WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall joined the Senate in voting to confirm Norman C. Bay, a former University of New Mexico law professor and U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico, as a commissioner of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Bay has served as the Director of the Office of Enforcement at FERC since 2009 and is slated to be named chairman of the commission. Udall issued the following statement after the confirmation vote:
"Norman Bay is a dedicated public servant with demonstrated expertise in the field of energy markets, and I was proud to support his confirmation to address energy challenges in New Mexico and throughout the nation. America needs a 'do it all, do it right' energy policy. We need to seize opportunities to build a clean energy economy and create good-paying jobs of the future, especially in New Mexico where we are blessed with vast and diverse energy resources. FERC plays a vital role in ensuring fair competition in energy markets, and I am confident Norman has the experience to take on the challenges posed by today's energy markets. I look forward to working with him to safeguard our energy security, which is critical to create jobs and strengthen the economy in New Mexico and across the nation."
