Udall Statement on the Retirement of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall issued the following statement on Majority Leader Harry Reid's announcement today that he will retire from the Senate:

"Harry Reid is a fighter, and for the decades he has served in Congress, he has fought on the side of working families, and smart investments that move our country forward. Our country is better for his service, and I've been proud to stand with him. Harry's years as Majority Leader will be remembered for the historic passage of health reform to ensure families who need health care can get it, for major investments in roads, bridges, education and community infrastructure that created jobs and helped get our economy going after the recession, and for the countless times he led the fight to help ensure working families — not corporate special interests — had a fair shot at getting ahead. We worked together to reform the Senate filibuster rules and push Congress to work for the American people. The Senate, and the nation, will miss his leadership, but I respect his decision. Jill and I wish Harry, Landra and their family all the best."
