Udall: National Park Service Will Reopen Old Santa Fe Trails Building to Visitors

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall welcomed news that National Park Service has decided to re-open to the public the historic Old Santa Fe Trails Building in Santa Fe. The Park Service announced this week that the building will be staffed by volunteers who will be able to provide information about the building as well as about parks and trails in the area.

"The Old Santa Fe Trails Building is an important landmark, a tremendous example of historic 1930s-era architecture, and it contains an outstanding collection of regional art, including Navajo and Pueblo art and pottery," Udall said. "I'm very glad visitors will again be able to enjoy all it has to offer. I want to thank the numerous citizens who raised this issue -- as well as the Park Service for working with the community to find a way to re-open one of the most beautiful buildings in Santa Fe."

Udall helped facilitate conversations about how to re-open the Old Santa Fe Trails Building to the public after hearing concerns from numerous constituents that the building had been closed to visitors. The Spanish-Pueblo Revival-style building had been closed to tours due to concerns about preservation and security.
