Udall Votes for Bipartisan Budget Agreement

WASHINGTON - Early this morning, U.S. Senator Tom Udall voted to approve a bipartisan budget agreement. The plan passed the Senate 64-35 and now heads to the president for his signature. Udall released the following statement:

"New Mexico's labs, military bases, and especially working families deserve certainty that the government will remain open for business. And we also must have relief from devastating sequestration budget cuts that have affected everything from military readiness to child care assistance, rural development, education and scientific research. I've pushed for years to end sequestration and return to responsible long-term budgeting, and this plan is a step in the right direction.

"While not perfect, the bipartisan budget agreement the House and Senate passed this week will stop sequester cuts from hurting New Mexico families and prevent a catastrophic default on the nation's debt. Now Congress must use this framework to develop a spending agreement by December 11, and I'm hopeful that we will pass a plan that supports jobs and the important programs New Mexico families depend on."
