Udall Celebrates Women's History Month

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tom Udall issued the following statement today in honor of Women's History Month:

"This Women's History Month, we celebrate the resiliency and strength of generations of women in New Mexico and nationwide, who have marched, organized and rallied for equality in the face of great opposition. And we are reminded of the responsibility we have to the brave leaders of these feminist movements to build on their work to create equal opportunity for women - of all races, classes, sexual orientations, gender identities and religions - in every aspect of life. We must commit to fighting for equal pay for equal work, trusting women to make their own health care decisions and creating a culture in which women can feel safe in their own homes and communities.

"Today is also International Women's Day and has been designated 'A Day Without A Woman' to call attention to the integral role that women play in keeping our economy running and our workforce thriving. I stand in solidarity with women across America and New Mexico today. We owe women in New Mexico a great deal of gratitude for the countless contributions they have made to our state-from helping us grow our economy with their small businesses, to leading families, educating our children as teachers and administrators, caring for our most vulnerable as health care professionals, spurring innovation at our national labs, and defending our freedom as members of the military. I will continue to fight in the Senate for policies that empower women at home and abroad, because creating opportunity and freedom for all makes makes us stronger."
