WASHINGTON – Following the release of the hyper-partisan and misleading “Nunes memo” today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall issued the following statement urging lawmakers in both parties to defend the work of Special Counsel Mueller and allow the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election to proceed:
“With the CIA warning that the Russians will try to interfere in the next election, every American should want to get to the bottom of the extent of Russia's involvement in the 2016 election. Using a cowardly, cherry-picked and hyper-partisan memo or other pretexts to fire Special Counsel Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein would cause a constitutional crisis that would weaken our national security. Senate Republicans and Democrats have a duty to act urgently to allow the Russia investigation to proceed, protect the rule of law, and defend the integrity of the hardworking Americans at the Justice Department and the FBI.”
