Udall Marks Labor Day

WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.) issued the following statement in honor of Labor Day:

"On this Labor Day, we celebrate the hardworking women and men in New Mexico and across the country who banded together, sacrificed and organized for the common good of all American workers. The labor movement has fought tirelessly to enact a vision of fair pay and fair treatment to shape each of our workplaces for the better -- from higher wages and the 40-hour work week to safer working conditions and good benefits.

"Let us honor their past work by recommitting ourselves to today's work: doing all we can to address stagnant wages and growing income inequality in our nation. We must stand together and fight for a higher minimum wage, access to affordable healthcare, safe working conditions, the freedom to organize, and equal opportunity for us all to contribute meaningfully to our economy."
