Udall Thanks Rio Rancho Native for Work During Washington, D.C. Internship

WASHINGTON— Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.) thanked Rio Rancho native Cambria Barnes for her work as an intern in his Washington, D.C., office this summer. During her tenure working virtually with Udall’s D.C. office, Barnes worked closely with the legislative team.

“U.S. Senate interns gain invaluable experience as they learn to navigate our nation’s legislative process. I applaud all of our interns who, despite having an unconventional, ‘virtual’ internship due to the global pandemic, found many ways to contribute to my office,” said Udall. “It’s been a pleasure to work with Cambria this summer, and I hope she finds her experiences during this internship rewarding as she begins her studies at Georgetown University.”

“I am extremely grateful to have been an intern with Senator Udall’s office this summer. This experience has provided me the opportunity to engage with important issues facing New Mexicans,” Barnes said. “I have especially enjoyed attending congressional briefings and learning about a wide variety of topics and how that knowledge drives policy initiatives. Through this internship I have been able to better understand the work that goes into the day-to-day operations of a congressional office.  I am thankful to each and every staff member who worked to make this experience both educational and meaningful for the interns. Thank you!”

Cambria is the daughter of Lisa and Brian Barnes and is a graduate of the Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School. She is a rising freshman at Georgetown University where she will study International Politics. Outside the classroom, she is involved in Model UN, student government, soccer, and is an active community volunteer.
