WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies, issued the following statement after a federal judge blocked William Perry Pendley from continuing to lead the Bureau of Land Management in an acting, unconfirmed capacity:
“William Perry Pendley has no business—and no authority—leading the Bureau of Land Management, and Secretary Bernhardt should have known better. Finally, Americans throughout the West and throughout the country can look forward to this anti-public lands, anti-Native zealot being shown the door. This ruling is a win for all who value the rule of law, Tribal sovereignty, and conservation. Any decision Pendley has made in this capacity must now be subject to legal scrutiny as well."
