WASHINGTON— Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.) thanked Maria Chávez Juárez for her work in his Washington, D.C., office as a legislative intern. During her tenure working on Capitol Hill, Chávez Juárez worked as an integral member of the legislative team.
“U.S. Senate interns gain invaluable experience as they learn to navigate our nation’s legislative process,” said Udall. “Maria has been a dedicated and integral part of our legislative team, especially during an unprecedented time. I thank Maria for her service to New Mexico and wish her well on her next chapter as she finishes college and begins her career.”
“Interning for Senator Udall’s office was an eye-opening experience to the work that needs to be done to protect and conserve our planet,” Chávez Juárez said . "My favorite part was seeing how much the Senator has done to leave a better world for our families and children. People’s voices matter when it comes to change—it’s all about consistency.”
Maria is currently completing her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, and minors in Public and Nonprofit Financial Management, Latino Studies, and Event Management at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Maria is a DACA recipient who is extensively involved in her school's community through the Latino Student Association, the Undergraduate Student Government, and the Mayor’s AXIS Latinx Leadership Program. Maria previously worked as a legal assistant at a criminal and immigration law firm, and hopes to pursue a master's degree in Nonprofit Management to become the CEO of a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving and providing resources to the Latinx community.
