WASHINGTON— Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.) thanked University of New Mexico (UNM) senior Manuela Ramirez Cruz for her work in his Washington, D.C., office as a legislative intern. During her tenure working on Capitol Hill, Ramirez Cruz worked closely with the legislative team.
“U.S. Senate interns gain invaluable experience as they learn to navigate our nation’s legislative process,” Udall said. “Manuela has been a truly dedicated and integral part of our legislative team, especially during an unprecedented time. I thank Manuela for her service to New Mexico communities and wish her well on her next chapter in law school.”
“I am here currently in Washington D.C. as a Fred Harris Intern for the University of New Mexico. I have been able to attend briefings, write memos to legislative staff, and assist with drafting responses to constituent letters. While in the office, I have also been able to take part in a project to document all of the memorabilia in the office as well as help with general projects as Senator Udall completes his term,” Ramirez Cruz said. “My favorite part of interning in this office so far has been the whole experience. I have been able to learn a lot while I have been here and I have been able to meet some great people.”
Manuela is currently completing her Bachelor’s degree in Criminology at UNM. She previously interned with the Immigration and American Citizenship Organization in New Jersey to help create support networks for immigrants in New Jersey and New York. Manuela plans to attend law school and pursue a career in public service.
